What are your holiday plans for the year? I love having something to look forward to and I spend a lot of time daydreaming about where I want to go. You might see me in Secunda but I’m in Bora Bora in my mind lol.
For those looking for a beachy getaway, here are some ideas on destinations that you could consider based on them being beautiful, rand friendly and requiring no VISA for South Africans.
Swim with dolphins in their natural habitat. Have a go at water sports. Greet all the fish while snorkeling in crystal clear water. Negotiate for great deals at the colourful markets. Enjoy the relaxing time out that you deserve. Take a selfie sipping on coconut, pretending it tastes good (Ok maybe other people like it). I fell in love with Mauritius. It’s one of my favourite destinations.
Best time to travel: October to February. I went in July last year and though it was cloudy and rainy, it was still warm and pleasant.
Zanzibar is definitely in my plans for the year. Zanzibar is vibrant, rich in culture, colourful, hot, and abundant in gorgeous doors for photo opportunities. Mango offers good deals on flights to Zanzibar so I will be keeping an eye out for that. Have you been to Zanzibar? Please share your experience and travelling tips from your time there 🙂
Best time to travel: May to February to avoid the long rainy days in March and April.
The natural beauty of Thailand is breathtaking. I had an unforgettable holiday in Phuket in December 2015 with my friend. We bought one of those all inclusive travel packages which worked out very smoothly. The highlights for me were definitely island hopping and eating. We also quad biked through a jungle, rode an elephant, snorkeled, got Thai massages and got our feet nibbled by garra rufa fish. You will bump into a lot of South African’s there. I even met a couple on honey moon from my small town Secunda.
Best time to travel: November to February to avoid the rain
Mozambique is perfect for a road trip as it is only a 6-7 hour drive from Johannesburg. When in Mozambique, be sure to visit the islands located offshore from the north and south coast of Mozambique. You can expect white sands, clear water and palm trees – how perfect?! I went to Mozambique on a family holiday and we were gifted the biggest prawns I have ever seen from a local family. The locals are friendly and helpful so you will get plenty opportunity to show off your Portuguese by expressing your gratitude and saying, “obrigado!”
Best time to travel: May to November to miss the rainy season.
People travel from around the world to visit Cape Town. It is globally rated among the best holiday destinations. Sip a fancy cocktail at Camps Bay. Take surfing lessons at Muizenberg beach. Kite surf in Blouberg. I’ve been to Cape Town a number of times but I still keep hearing of more spots that I have to check out. Cape Town is like a magical cookie jar that never empties. If you’re not up for the drive, be ready for the flight sales and get a great deal. Just go to Cape Town please!
Best time to travel: Avoid the winter rains from May to August.
I hope this was helpful! Happy planning 🙂
